Wanted to add two more compelling Draculas as portrayed by the wonderful Jeremy Brett and Raul Julia. Both men were handsome, extremely talented and charismatic, with gorgeous voices. They starred in the stage play and I wish I could have seen their performances. Costume wise, they wore elegant Victorian era evening attire, with dramatic flared collars on their capes.

There's been many Dracula inspired vampire films made over the years, too many for the scope of this essay. Instead I'll focus on those that attempted to stay closer to Bram Stoker's 1897 novel.

Robert Eggers saw the 1922 Nosferatu at the age of nine and developed a lifelong vision for his own Nosferatu. His is a finely ground folk horror lens and he views the world through it.

As suggested by [personal profile] bleodswean feel free to add on/replace/discuss/dismiss as feels interesting. I'm sticking to the Major Arcana here, because to do all 78 cards would bend my brain. These are taken very loosely from Nosferatu 24, Bram Stoker's Dracula 92, The Novel Dracula, and a surprise at the end. Credit to [personal profile] bleodswean, [personal profile] earthspirits and [personal profile] erimia for sparking these ideas.

SORRY, EVERYONE! This morning, I thought I was deleting a duplicate of this post on my own journal, but instead accidentally deleted my original post here, and all of the comments that were made.

I've now re-posted my original essay - and good news! I was able to retrieve the deleted comments bleodswean and smokingboot made, along with my responses, and have added them all back to the comment section.

Again, sorry for the mix-up!

The exquisite costumes for Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992) were designed by Eiko Ishioka. That year, she won the Oscar for Costume Design, and deservedly so. Her work for this film was truly amazing.

For this post, I'll be discussing costumes for the characters of Dracula and Mina / Elisabeta. They each had a lot of intricate costumes (too many for one post), so I'll just be focusing on those that connect them as a couple.

Please note that my essay contains spoilers for the film.
Warnings: There's discussion of death, suicide, and reincarnation, all related to the true love of the characters. One costume photo depicts a character death.
